Have you ever faced a tough decision that felt like you were at a crossroads?

Dan Hurley, head coach of the UConn Huskies, recently found himself in such a spot.

The Lakers, yes, the Lakers, offered him a six-year, $70 million contract to coach none other than LeBron James. Hurley’s always dreamed of coaching in the NBA, so you can imagine his excitement and anxiety when the Lakers came calling.

But here’s where the lesson in emotional intelligence comes in: Hurley didn’t rush his decision. He took the time he needed, but not a second more, to weigh his options carefully.

What if a client offers you double your current income to work with the top talent in your field?

What do you do?

Hurley’s approach might be just the roadmap you need.

He flew out to LA, met with the Lakers’ execs, and gave himself until Monday to decide. He had enough time to think things through, but not so much that he’d lose out.

Why is this so important?

Rushing to make a decision under pressure can lead to big regrets.

Sure, Hurley could’ve taken the Lakers job and raked in the cash, but what if things didn’t click with LeBron?

What if he ended up fired after a season?

On the flip side, sticking with UConn might mean missing out on another NBA shot…
